Over half term the Outdoor Ed department relocated to the Caringorms for some winter walking and climbing.  It was sunny for two days, very cloudy for the other three days and super windy throughout.

A blowy day out on Brent Moor

Numbers were down due to Triathlon Winter Training camps, so we only had six for Navigation today.  The day was mostly sunny, always windy and threw a few showers of hail at us with a little bit of gentle snow at times.

Caving with the Upper VI

The Upper VI had their first taste of caving in Bakers Pit, after we descended the entrance ladders we ditched the harnesses and went for an explore, finding the old entrance which has since been filled in with land fill.  We then went off to a sump and found some squeezes before heading out to hoze all the kit down.

Orienteering

Today we had hoped to go to Mountain Biking at Holden Hill, but this was closed due to the recent wind knocking a number of trees over on the track and the recent rain washing sections of the track away.  So we had a day looking at orienteering as part of the navigation element of the Lower VI 'Skills for Land based Adventurous Activities', based on the courses in Central Park and Saltram.

Mountain Biking at Cann Woods

Following a day spent looking at bike maintenance earlier in the week, today the upper and lower sixth had their first day mountain biking.  We went to Cann Woods and looked at some simple riding skills and techniques on the fire track before finding some sections of single track to play on.  Well done to all who kept enthused throughout the day, even if it was raining the whole time.
