At the end of this term, I will be standing down as Head of Outdoor Education to be able to spend more time climbing and kayaking around the UK and abroad.
Mr Rees will step up to become Head of Outdoor Education and Miss Lindsey will take on the role of Head of DofE and they will to continue to push the department forward between them. I will make some occasional visits to help with Trips, Expeditions and Activities Week over the Summer Term.

Last mountain bike day at Lanhydrock
A good day out at the newly opened, superb trail park at Lanhydrock. Having been to most of the trail centres locally, the BTEC students enjoyed pushing themselves on the fresh, flowing single track. Well done to the Upper 6th who organised the day.

Haldon Hill mountain biking
Haldon Hill has opened again following the storms a few weeks ago. We did half of the blue route as a warm up, and then blasted around the red route before spending a short time on the skills track, tackling sections of board walk, drop off's, burms and table tops.

Ten Tors training weekend, again!
Well done all those who were out this weekend. Walking on Saturday was chilly and slightly soggy, with the added attraction of cooking an evening meal on Trangias. Following a chilly night in the tents, we covered a lot of miles on a sunny but windy day before gladly reaching the mini buses.

Not so sunny on Dartmoor
The Upper Sixth spent Tuesday being blown around on the moor while searching for tiny contour features. Good use of compasses and pacing.

Navigation on Dartmoor in the cloud
The Lower 6th students did well with navigating in the 100m visability. We went into the woods for lunch and spent the next hour discovering why we don't spend all day navigating in the woods. We also found out why route choice to avoid bogs is a good idea.

Lower VI go caving
Today the Lower VI had their first caving experience. We went to Pridhamsleigh Cavern and had a good explore around many of the passages, getting covered in mud in the process. Well done to the two who braved the sump.
