Final days

Yesterday we headed back up to Fontgarnide for some more climbing. We used different routes to last time which were harder and challenged the students more.

Today we headed to the beach by the Pont d'Arc for a swim before the impressive afternoon thunderstorm. This evening we have been packing up camp so all that remains is to drop the tents before an early leave tomorrow.

Although the week has been activity focussed, there has been a bigger educational value where all the boys wrote the menu, cooked a meal (and we have had some good food), took it in turns to go to the bakery and order the croissants, order their own ice creams and play an active part in managing themselves and the trip.

Overnight Ardeche Paddle

Yesterday and today we were out paddling the Ardeche Gorge in glorious sunshine and low wind. A great BBQ at the Bivouac de Gournier completed the trip. There are now 7 very tired teenage boys so hoping for an early night all round

Ardeche Trip First Report

7 year 10 Pupils, Mr Rees and Mr Starks left Plymouth on the Saturday night ferry  and headed south. After a night in a hotel on route we arrived at our campsite in The Ardeche mid afternoon. We put up the tents and Then Had a swim in the river. We were Treated to an amazing firework display by the river outside our campsite.

On Tuesday we went rock climbing at Fontgarnide and everyone climbed 5 different routes grade 4 - 6a. The afternoon was spent swimming in the river.

Today we went Mountain Biking, a long sweaty cycle up hill lead to a couple of single track downhills before the heat got us and we returned to site by mid afternoon.

The weather so far has been very hot with even hotter periods interspersed with heat waves. Tomorrow we head out on a two day canoe trip down the river.
