Learning the ropes

The Second year students ran a superb day for the first year students. By the end of the day everyone could correctly don a harness, tie-in, belay and had the beginnings of an idea about movement skills. Well done folks

Only back for a day and already we're climbing the walls

We're getting used to a new camera so apologies for the slightly fuzzy photos. The Discoverers went climbing at Dart Rock yesterday evening. We had a split between those who were proficient and those who were new to it all. Everyone had a good number of times up the wall before getting completely finished on the bouldering wall and cave.

Leading a day climbing

As part of their assessment the BTEC students led a day climbing for some Year 7 and 8 students. They all had a great time and learnt lots about climbing movement, using harnesses, tying knots and learning how to belay. Well done all

A day of climbing at Dart Rock

A good effort from all today with everyone pushing themselves to climb harder and harder routes. We finished with a bouldering challenge where each successful climber removed a hold from use to make it more difficult, in the end we only had about five holds left!
Well done all

Dart Rock Climbing

                            Dart Rock Climbing

In preparation for our lesson with the younger students, today's experience at indoor climbing was quite entertaining and productive. We concentrated on enhancing our coaching skills in the direction of creating warm-up games and activities designed to involve various climbing techniques. Such techniques included traversing, matching, bouldering and many more. It was interesting to observe the creativity and versatility of the pupils in regards to creating games and adapting for increased performance/involvement. In addition, it was with admiration that we noted the clear progression of each individual's confidence and capability in areas of both personal and coaching work. Thus, we look forward to the oncoming weeks and the continuous improvement of the students of Plymouth College.
