The rain had passed but the wind persisted. The Upper Sixth BTEC students headed to Newton Ferrers and enjoyed the shelter of the harbour before heading out to the mouth of the Erme for a spot of surfing. After poking our noses out on to the sea we turned and headed back to a beach to look at contact tows and a to get to grips with edging. Great day.

A bit windy for Sea Kayaking
It was a bit windy today, but we headed to Newton Ferrers to go sea kayaking. The wind seemed to b coming down the Yealm and down from Bridgend but we managed to get a good paddle in looking at moving the craft forwards, backward, sideways and around in circles. Some people also managed to get their nose on the front of their kayak...

Racing kayaks at Newton Ferrers
Sunshine but a little wind greeted the Deputy Head who came out today for our first foray this term with the racing boats, we only had one fall in - remarkably still managing to keep his hair dry!

Second years sea kayaking from Newton Ferrers
In among the rocks...
Beached...!
Does it go...?
Through!
Ah! I see the problem
Mind your head
Lunch time, in the rain
Where has all the water gone?!
Oh look, surf!
Almost went in
Go go go!

Lower 6th Sea Kayak from Newton Ferrers
We had a couple of students drop out today due to injuries but the rest of us had a great time on the sea. We headed to the mouth of the Yealm and challenged ourselves to go out in to the bigger waves and swell, then after lunch went rock hopping in the swell before trying out the tow lines and heading back.
